Digital Image Classification Taught Using Web-Based Interactive Learning Goal:
The goal of this project is to develop a web-based interactive learning framework
for fundamentals of Digital Image Processing (DIP) topic that allows an individual,
or communities of users, to easily use, manage and organize locally developed content.
Objectives:
- In partnership with IowaView, to provide course content to support on-line framework
developed by the IowaView team.
- To develop additional learning modules to support the digital image classification
modules described below.
- To design and implement a FLASH-based framework for this topic using the materials
developed by VirginiaView.
- To develop interactive DIP modules using Adobe FLASH and supporting programming
environments.
Methodology
The digital image processing framework will be developed using Adobe Flash, Flex
and other applicable programming environments. Flash will be used as a development
platform due to the following reasons: a) ability to create interactive software
and animation, b) no need to buy any software (FLASH plug-ins are free), c) platform
independence, d) small file size, and finally, e) flash also synergizes very well
with other common tools used in conjunction with the Internet such as PHP and MySQL.
This framework can run both as a stand-alone or a web-based application. It will
cover both theoretical background and interactive modules such as radiometric and
geometric corrections, enhancements, supervised and unsupervised classifications,
change detection and accuracy assessment.
